Position Overview

A rapidly growing, private company is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead and strengthen its accounting function during a significant period of growth and organizational expansion.

This is a highly visible leadership role reporting to the senior finance organization and will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operation, financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and accounting processes. The ideal candidate will have experience operating in a high-growth, acquisition-oriented environment and be comfortable building structure and processes as the organization continues to scale.

The company has an active growth strategy, including acquisitions and integration of newly acquired businesses into a larger organization. This position will play an important role in bringing consistency, accuracy, and scalability to the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day accounting function, including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, controls, and reporting processes.
  • Partner with senior finance and operational leadership to improve financial visibility and decision-making.
  • Support the accounting and financial integration of acquired businesses.
  • Establish standardized accounting processes across multiple locations and business units.
  • Assist with acquisition-related accounting, due diligence, integration, and post-close activities.
  • Oversee revenue recognition and project/job accounting, including percentage-of-completion accounting where applicable.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes and improve the efficiency of the close.
  • Work closely with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other outside partners.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and other broader finance initiatives.
  • Help develop and mentor a high-performing accounting team.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Assist senior leadership with special projects, process improvement initiatives, and other strategic financial matters.

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting, or senior accounting leader.
  • Experience within a private, middle-market, or acquisitive company required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple acquisitions and integrating acquired businesses.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion/project-based accounting is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with ERP implementations, system conversions, or accounting process integrations.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both finance and operational leadership.
